Optometry is a great profession and I enjoy serving patients as an Optometrist. Every Optometrist I have ever met has been outstanding. Optometrists are always willing to give advice and to learn how to serve patients best. Providing quality eye care has been an exciting and rewarding career.
My experience in the health care field will play a vital role in serving the citizens of West Virginia. Once elected, I will work to help Medicare recipients get eye health care coverage as a preventative measure. As all Optometrists know, the sooner we can diagnose and commence treatment the easier and more successful the treatment will be. And more cost effective! The early detection of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration allows for better treatment and hopefully prevention of vision loss. As these and other related eye diseases progress the cost to treat that disease increases. Prevention and early detection is a key ingredient in reducing health care costs for everyone.
The new Medicare benefit of one 'preventative doctor visit' is a great step in the right direction. Optometrists should be utiilized aggresively for eye care referrals when feasible as a cost reducing measure. Ophthalmologists should be referral recepients when the diagnosis is warranted, otherwise patients should be directed to Optometrists for monitoring eye conditions and for preventative eye care. |

Optometrists face severe reimbursement cuts in the near future. Medicare and Medicaid entitlements need safe and secure funding. |

Optometry is one of the Top 25 best jobs in America. I know the value of a good paying job. The failed policies of the state government needs to be reformed. West Virginia needs good paying jobs, not just any type of job. But jobs that lead to prosperity. As one who has been blessed to have a good paying job, that will be my highest priority when elected. Create good paying safe secure jobs. |
