Position Statement:  Something stinks in Washington.

Description of Position:
When the 50 plus men gathered in a cramped old building in Philadelphia debating the future nation the smell of sweat had to be choking to some. Before the age of air conditioning and ceiling fans the heat of those long summer days had to be unbearable. But the cause was worth it. A new nation was born. Fifty plus sweating men forged a new nation. Now over 200+ years later the stink of Congress has gotten worse. No, the air conditioning works fine. I am talking about performance. Congress now holds the lowest approval rating since ratings began. Even during the Vietnam War Congress was rated higher.

Republicans had gained the majority and did not win the approval of most Americans. Their inaction led to a dramatic victory for the Democratic Party in the election of 2006. Now six months after taking charge of both houses the approval rating has dropped to the lowest level ever. An incredible only 14% approve of the job our elected Congresspeople are doing! If this were a professional football team the coach would be fired. The assistant coaches would be fired and players would either be cut or traded. Instead, voters re-elect the same people. West Virginia's two Senators have been in office for a combined 70+ years! ITS TIME for a change. If there is to be a smell come from Congress it should be from the sweat of hard working elected people solving the health care crisis, or the Iraqi crisis, or the economy crisis, or the job crisis, or the energy crisis, or the...... Will the sweet smell of sweat in Congress ever return to the glory days of Benjamin Franklin?
