Position Statement: The Department of Homeland Security like most government departments wastes tax dollars and places politics before the welfare of the people.

To be sure we need security here in the homeland. That point is without question. And I do not mean to imply that those who work for this department are not concerned and dedicated people. The real question remains how effective is the department at providing security to the American people? I believe there is a better solution to our security needs then the creation of another department. Illegal immigration falls under the jurisdiction of this department. That score in itself fails the American people. Over one hundred and eighty thousand jobs were created with this new department. I believe that money would have been better spent. For example, each state could have been given additional funds to hire police protection for it`s citizens. Image what the crime rate would do with an extra 184,000 police officers across America. Our children would be safer everyday. Border states of course would have gotten more. Smaller states and those with less crime would have gotten a smaller share. But rural counties that go without police protection would have had more coverage. Every day. Drug related crimes could be investigated. Sex slavery could have more attention. The average median state could have added over 3,500 more police officers. Here in West Virginia where crime is already low compared to the national averages each county could easily have been provided 2-3 extra officers. If considered a median state as an example, 3500 police officers would have given each county 63 more! |
