Position Statement:  Gambling is a poor excuse for job creation.

Description of Position:
I believe gambling as a source of occassional entertainment is not an issue. But when the Governor and the Legislature fail West Virginians and deceive people into believing gambling is the answer to create jobs, that is when I oppose the issue. The Legislative year 2007 will always be remembered as the year West Virginia was bought by gambling. A pitiful few low paying gambling jobs will be the reward for taxpayers. Sure some county funding will come from this bill. But the costs will outway the benefits. Revenue generation from gambling is a poor excuse for elected leaders. Real solutions to the job market problems will never be solved by dirty money. During the 2006 campaign, bumper stickers told the story. Tell Don `referencing Mr. Don Blankenship` West Virginia is NOT for sale. True. It was already sold to the gambling industry. The Democratically controlled West Virginia Legislature and Governor is owned by the gambling industry. The people of West Virginia have been deceived. And hopefully wake up before the situation gets any worse. The strategy of using our elderly as a smokescreen for increased gambling makes it even more shameful.

Gambling special interests won the 2006 election. Within 5 months they were rewarded with the only serious piece of governmental legislation passed. Morality was ignored. The needs of West Virginians without health care, over-taxation of businesses and real job creation were ignored. Our teachers were insulted. Our businessowners were insulted. Yet our signs read `Open for Business` at least now we know what kind of business is welcome in West Virginia. Gambling. And only gambling.

Massive job layoffs announced. Shock! So gambling is NOT the industry we need to create jobs. Another LIE. The democratic party continues to fail the people of West Virginia. Gambling has never been and will never be the answer to our problems. This is all the proof you should ever need to realize that.
