- Optometrists need representation in the US
Senate to protect our profession and to advance our profession on the
national level. Visit the AOA
News article*, (pages 3 and 14), explaining how Optometry depends
on the Congress for support concerning vital issues as Medicare and Medicaid
reimbursements which are both expected to be cut in half.
- Having an Optometrist as a United States
Senator will bring free publicity to our profession. Your practice
will benefit from the added exposure of having an OD in the Senate.
- Attacks on our profession require strong
leadership in the US Senate. Having an Optometrist in the Senate only makes
the lobbying efforts easier and more productive. Legislation can be
introduced directly into the Senate.
- The success and profitability of your
practice and the related business aspects depends on legislation that comes
from our federal government. Having a voice from within will be more
productive than hiring lobbyist to gain support.
- US Senators represent every state in the
nation, not just the state that elected them. Being elected by the people of
West Virginia allows all Optometrists to benefit. Provider plans
should not be allowed to exclude Optometrists.
- Successful campaigns require adequate
funds. Senator Robert C. Byrd has served in the US Senate for 48 years. The
time for change has arrived. He is more vulnerable in this election then
ever before. The opportunity for an Optometrist to be elected has never been
better and may never be again. Your decision to contribute may help decide
the outcome of this campaign. Please
pledge now.
- Optometrists need to support each other.
In good times and in bad. This is one time where the outcome could benefit
all Optometrists, their families and their business. Senator Byrd has
opposed six out of the last nine small business bills in the Senate. As most
Optometrists would be considered small business owners this fact alone
should stimulate some to support a Pro-Business and a Pro-Optometry
candidate.
- Ophthalmology will oppose an Optometrist.
Sad but true, most will feel threatened by an Optometrist campaigning for
office. Will Optometrists allow Ophthalmologists to win again? While I do
not have an anti-Ophthalmology agenda that will not stop some from
contributing to my opponents. I call for Optometrists to invest in the
future of our profession.
- Your Pledge will make the difference.
Please consider your contribution as an investment in your future. And the
future of Optometry. The decision is yours. Please
pledge now.
